Barmah-Millewa Feasibility Study Information Sessions

The Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) is hosting a 1.5 hour online information session about the Barmah-Millewa Feasibility Study.

We are offering the same session across two days and look forward to you joining us for one of them.

The online information sessions will be held on:

  • Thursday 7 July | 12 noon - 1.30pm AEST
  • Friday 8 July | 12 noon - 1.30 pm AEST

The sessions will include a presentation and an opportunity for you to ask questions in an open Q&A forum.

Presenters

  • Dr Ben Dyer - MDBA Director System Review team
  • Ross Hardie - Alluvium Consulting Australia

Background content

Due to the importance of the Barmah-Millewa reach, the Murray-Darling Basin Ministerial Council directed the MDBA to undertake a major study this year to investigate and assess the feasibility of options to maintain and where possible reinstate the capacity of the reach.

The options include

  • a river works program to stabilise banks, reduce local degradation and avoid further outbreaks of water onto the floodplain
  • ways to address sedimentation and reduction of channel capacity
  • optimisation of use of Tar-Ru - Lake Victoria for water storage and delivery
  • optimising use of the Murray Irrigation Limited system to move water around the Barmah-Millewa reach
  • options for water delivery through Victorian infrastructure
  • River Murray releases from the Snowy-Hydro to Murrumbidgee
